The MS in Industrial Engineering (Master en Ingeniería Industrial) from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Program Educational Objectives

The graduates, a few years after obtaining their master degree, must have attained the following educational objectives in accordance with their knowledge and the skills acquired during their training and the experience accumulated in their work experience:

  • OE1. They will be effective in professional practice for the innovation, development, management, and application of engineering aspects as well as be trained and committed to life-long learning.

  • OE2. They will design and implement innovative and creative solutions to engineering problems, evaluating their economic consequences, considering their global impact on society and the environment, developing skills for entrepreneurship, and taking as guiding principles for action an ethical and socially responsible conduct.

  • OE3. They will be efficient in oral and written communication.

  • OE4. They will efficiently determine the goals and priorities of the activities to be performed in their professional field establishing the actions, deadlines, resources and change process required to achieve the proposed results.

  • OE4. They will effectively lead, manage, work, and relate in multidisciplinary teams and in multilingual and multicultural environments, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability and desire for self-improvement.

Student Outcomes

The legislation defines the profession of Industrial Engineer, as regulated profession whose exercise requires possession of a formal title of Master obtained according to the provisions of Article 15.4 of the Real Decreto 1393/2007, according to the conditions established in the Agreement of Council of Ministers of December 26, 2008, published in the Official Gazette on January 29, 2009.

General Student Outcomes (Orden CIN/311/2009 )

The general student outcomes of the Master in Industrial Engineering are suited to that contained in the Order CIN / 311/2009, dated 9 February:

  • CG1. Have appropriate knowledge of the scientific and technological aspects of: mathematical, analytical and numerical methods in engineering, electrical engineering, power engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, continuum mechanics, industrial electronics, automation, manufacturing, materials, quantitative methods management, industrial computing, planning, infrastructure, etc.

  • CG2. Project, calculate and design products, processes, facilities and plants.

  • CG3. Direct, plan and supervise multidisciplinary teams.

  • CG4. Conduct research, development and innovation in products, processes and methods.

  • CG5. Perform strategic planning and apply it to both constructive and production, quality and environmental management systems.

  • CG6. Technically and economically manage projects, installations, plants, companies and technology centers.

  • CG7. Being able to exercise general direction, technical direction and project management R & D in plants and technology centers.

  • CG8. Apply their knowledge and solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader contexts and multidisciplinary environments.

  • CG9. Being able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.

  • CG10. Knowing how to communicate the conclusions -and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.

  • CG11. Possess learning skills that will allow further study of a self-directed or autonomous mode.

  • CG12. Knowledge, understanding and ability to apply the necessary legislation in the exercise of the profession of Industrial Engineer.

Student Outcomes (ABET)

Transversal outcomes of the Master in Industrial Engineering are the outcomes required by the Accreditation Certificate ABET, which accredits in the United States curriculum engineering programs:

  • A. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
